WWII Veterans Meet in Minden, NV

Memorial Day is our National Holiday set aside to Honor those who died in all America’s wars, as well as those who are Veterans and current members of the US Military.  I was contacted by D’Nese Davis of Carson City, Nevada, with an idea to bring two WWII Nevada residents together over the Holiday.   She told me that the last Pearl Harbor survivor who lives in Nevada, Corporal Edward Hall, is coming to Carson City for a visit.  “He would like to meet your father”,   Air Force Major John Hill,  if we can arrange it.

And We Did!

D’Nese is a veterans advocate who has made it her mission to Support, Celebrate and Honor American Veterans not only in Nevada but across the United States.

In addition to our two WWII Veterans, we were honored to have many younger veterans at the table representing Air Force and Navy; all who were interested in Ed and John’s stories.

Ed, who enlisted in the Army Air Corp when he was 16 years old will be 96 in October and John (aka Jack) will be 97 in August.   It was a humbling afternoon with all these Veterans who were seated at the table. It was a Memorial Day I’m sure we all will remember for quite some time.
Jack shares a bit of his experience while stationed in Grosetto, Italy during WWII. He was a bomber pilot flying both the Douglas A-20 and A-26 during night missions. He explained to us how difficult it was finding the bridge targets in the dark without GPS of course.  The only information they had was a description of a certain bend in the river and unknown miles beyond. Certainly a “Where’s Waldo ” situation in the dark of night.

Ed recalls a moment at Pearl Harbor.

In the video below, listen to Ed’s account of his experience at Pearl Harbor.
