Killin’ Time in Oregon

Our Coach is being worked on in Eugene. Two things need to be repaired. After the tech determined what the problem was, the parts need to be ordered. While waiting for parts we took another short trip to Florence to kill some time.
We visited the Darlingtonia Natural Site just North of Florence.  We had been here once before, but it was raining and too dark to take any pictures.  The attraction here are these unusual plants sometimes called Cobra Lily or the official name of Darlingtonia californica.  The plants are native to Northern California and Oregon.

Cobra Lily

The plant resembles a rearing cobra complete with a forked leaf – ranging from yellow to purplish-green – that resembles a serpent’s tongue.

The Cobra Lily is a member of the Pitcher Plant family, but it is unusual because it doesn’t store rainwater to catch its prey. It stands about 20 inches tall, and the hood is translucent, the insect travels up into the hood attracted by nectar just inside the plant’s opening. Once trapped the insect is caught in the long tubular stem and is digested there. They get the moisture from the roots.

Once back at Oregon Motorcoach Center in Eugene the parts slowly came in and each day the techs worked on the two issues. The left Turn signal is not operating and the bedroom slide will not close completely.  The slide has been a problem since July 4th when we were camped in Wasilla, Alaska.

During our 9 day stay here we were able to stay in the Coach each evening. We had Power, and there was fresh water and a dump station available. We ended up staying longer than we thought because it wasn’t an easy fix for either of the problems.  We still would recommend this facility.  They were friendly, and the price was fair.

This Center is quite busy. Coaches are coming in and leaving every day. They have 6 Bays that accommodate two motorhomes in each bay.  They do all types of repairs, upgrades to interior and outside bodywork.

UPDATE: The parts came in and the mechanic has completed the work ~ everything is working as it should now.
Tomorrow we are heading to Crater Lake for a few days before continuing to Nevada.
