We left Cedar Key in a big wind storm. It had been cold the day before we left and it didn’t get much better all the way to Panacea. We arrived at HOLIDAY CAMP GROUND late afternoon and the wind was still blowing. This RV park backed right up to the waters of Ochlockonee Bay. First opinion was that this park was very old and some of the spaces weren’t real level. We chose it for it’s more central location to the places we were interested in visiting. In the end we decided it was quite nice and we would stay there again and hope for warmer weather. They have their own fishing pier and small beach. I suppose the most annoying was that the highway was very close. But at night it was very quiet. We found out when we checked in that this was actually a small village called OCHLOCKONEE, FL.
The fishing pier was for registered RVers. It was equipped with a fish cleaning station for all you fishermen out there.
If you like Barbeque a Place called HAMA KNOCKERS had pretty good Pulled Pork just down the road North toward Panacea. Fresh Seafood was great at the little place called MY WAY SEAFOOD along the highway near the Barbeque joint. We bought shrimp and other fish there.
The first day we drove the jeep around ALLIGATOR POINT and Bald Point . This are has seen some damage from a past hurricane.
My main attraction was the ST. MARKS NWR located about 45 miles east of here. There was a small RV park located at the entrance to the park but seriously their prices were way out of line.
St. Marks was an amazing refuge you can click on the link above to read more about it. We visited there three times.. Well worth the drive. Here are a few of the photos from the refuge.
