Glacier National Park

Our base camp was in Lakeside Montana at Jim and Marys RV Park.  Although seeing the National Park was our featured stop we also were interested in all that Lakeside, Whitefish and Bigfork had to offer.

Arriving in Montana late in summer it seems the chances of dealing with smoke from wildfires increases.  We arrived early August in Missoula and fires were going strong. By the time we got to Lakeside the smoke in Glacier Park was very bad.

We stopped for photos near the top of the Logan pass on the Going to the Sun Road

Our good friends and fellow Fulltime RVers Betty and Duane,

originally from South Dakota

As expected there was plenty of traffic along the way

On the Porch at the Inn at Many Glaciers.

Looks like a great place to stay in order to cut all ties to the outside world while you sit in the rocking chairs and plan your next novel or sculpture.

We made two trips up here from Lakeside, one day straight up to the summit and back to Lakeside. Then two days later we traveled about two hundred miles taking the counterclockwise trip around to all the beautiful lodges then back over the summit. The winds had shifted some which allowed us to see the mountains more clearly.  Not long after we left some of the roads were closed due to new fires breaking

out.

One of the highlights on this part of the trip was the upcoming Solar Eclipse.  We weren’t camped in the best spot to see this event,  but when it completed about 90%  and the temperature lowered noticeably, it was quite Impressive!

We said our goodbyes to our friends and we continued on to Idaho while they returned to South Dakota.
