Biloxi has beautiful white sand beaches.

We decided to park at the Elks lodge which was located conveniently across the street from the beach.  They have about 3 spaces to park but a bit of a tight squeeze getting into them. Their lodge is very nice.

Located about a mile from the lodge is the Biloxi Visitor Center. This is one of the most beautiful visitor centers I have ever seen. It is 24,000 sq feet and offers not only tons of information on the area but is also a museum of sorts. Upstairs is a 67 seat state of the art movie theater showing the film “We are Biloxi”.  If you step out on the upstairs porch you are eye to eye with the Biloxi Lighthouse and a panoramic view of the beach.

This center opened in 2011 on the footprint of a two story mansion that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. It’s design resembles the historic structure that once graced these grounds.

Lighthouse

The Biloxi Lighthouse is the only American Lighthouse situated in the center of a four-lane highway.

It was first lit in 1848 and has primarily been kept by women over the years.  The Cast Iron Lighthouse has withstood numerous hurricanes over its lifetime including Katrina when the storm surge enveloped a third of the 64 foot tall structure.

Lunch was at Mc Elroy Harbor House  on Beach Blvd.  It was completely destroyed during Hurricane Katrina. Photo Below in the highlight shows the location and devastation to the property:

It is now restored and we had  lunch here;  it was delicious and the view was outstanding.
