When we first put our name on the list at Sheldon Air Service, we told them we would take any of their three tours as long as it included a glacier landing, that’s an option for $90.00 above the regular tour price.
They have Three Tours
-
The Mountain House Tour
-
Base Camp Tour
-
Denali Grand Tour
When we arrived Sky, the tour organizer had not found anyone to go with us, so we got to choose our tour, and we flew in the six place Cessna 185 with our pilot which was very cool. The add-on price for that perk was $35.00 each. It was so worth it because I had two cameras two lenses and my cell phone camera with me and I had all the room I needed to lay them out for a quick change.
We chose the “Denali Grand Tour” with a glacier landing. It’s a one and a half hour flight with around 30 minutes on the glacier.
I took over 600 pictures on this flight… How do I choose my favorites?
We flew entirely around Denali.
We flew Very close to the 14,000 ft face of the Wickersham Wall, one of the most massive snow, rock and ice walls in the world.
We’ve Landed at Base Camp
I’m happy we landed here because we got to see many of the climbers coming and going. As we landed, there was a group coming in after several days attempting to get to the summit.
This guy arrived as we were getting ready to leave with three Pizzas delivering to the climbers. Now that is what I call Special Delivery.
As if there weren’t enough photos posted here, I couldn’t help myself; I had to put together a short video of this breathtaking flight. So here that is if you are interested. It is about 4 minutes long. Thanks again to our RV friends Chuck and Jan who encouraged us to take this flight.
