RV Math 3 + 3 = 1

Hello Again, Fredericksburg, Texas

I’ve lost track of how many times we have stopped here. It’s got Charm, History, Good eats, Museums, Art Galleries Wineries galore, and it’s in the Texas Hill Country.
We have stayed once at every RV park in the area in the past but for the last three visits, we have stayed at the Gillespie County Park. Home of the oldest County  Fair in Texas.  $25.00 with  W&E and $10.00 dry camping – Dump site included. We were happy out in the grass Dry Camping.
When we arrived, we met up with our new RV friends Tom and Deb, whom we met at Big Bend earlier on our East bound journey. That afternoon at the fairgrounds, they told us about the vintage motorcycle show and races, so we all went and had a fun evening.
We don’t have much time to stay here because we need to get to Nevada during the week before Easter. We had three things to accomplish in two days before continuing West.
First on the List, stock up at Opa's
First stop, Opa’s Smoked Meats Store and butcher shop.  We are addicted to Opa’s smoked sausages and german style red cabbage. My dad loves it too, and often times we will just order it to be shipped when we can’t get to Texas. They do an amazing job of packing their meats and getting them to you cold via FedEx for a reasonable fee. Hatch Green Chili is our favorite, but we would eat any of their styles.  Our friends Bill and Gisela even took a detour on their route West last year to bring us some as a gift.
THEN
NOW
Second on the list, was to drive up to Spicewood, TX and meet my lifelong girlfriend, Phyllis for lunch at OPIE’S BBQ.  We celebrated our birthdays.  We met here two years ago too, just about the same time.  We think this is the best BBQ joint for 100’s of miles around!
The drive to Spicewood from Fredericksburg is about an hour north. That drive gave us a chance to see this year’s wildflowers blooming in the hill country. A stop at the LBJ State Park and The National Historical Park was part of our itinerary on the ride back to camp.  The following pictures give you a glimpse of this very beautiful part of Texas.

We prepared to hit the road but the next day we were grounded with Extreme High Wind Warnings and Blowing dust from West Texas through Deming New Mexico.  Right down the I-10 corridor.  So we hunkered down and finally got to head to Fort Stockton two days later.
Yesterday we made it all the way to Willcox, AZ which is near the New Mexico border. Trying to make up for lost time we were on the road including fueling and two Lily stops for 7 hours on the infamous I-10.

So, if you are wondering about the RV Math header… it simply sums up our day on the road yesterday. Plus, we thought maybe it would make you read the whole post !! lol
Three States (Texas, New Mexico and Arizona) Plus, Three Time Zones (Central Daylight, Mountain Daylight and Mountain Standard) Equals= One day’s travel.  Arizona does not change its clocks during daylight savings, it’s happy staying as Standard time, so although we are still in the Mountain time zone in Arizona, we still gained extra hour.
So confusing.
Don’t cha’ wish we could All just stay “Standard”,

A Not So Happy UPDATE:

When we pulled in to the Elks Lodge parking lot Mark heard a peculiar sound in the motorhome engine. After some investigation it seems we have a mechanical problem. We have a side mounted radiator which has a gearbox attached to the fan. That gearbox is leaking fluid and there is a knocking noise in that area.  It’s the weekend so cannot get a mechanic in this area to look at it until Monday AM. We not sitting along I-10, and very thankful for that.  Plan B will be to have us towed to Tucson 70 miles from here where there is a Cummins Parts and Service facility.

I may have to fly out of Tucson now if this takes too long. There is more of an urgent need  for me to get to my dad’s house sooner than later.. more anxieties, but this too shall pass.

Beautiful pics of the area! What a great time of year to be there. Sorry about the motor home problems hoping that it is a quick fix that will be taken care of soon.
