We stayed at the Escapees RV park in Chimacum, Washington while visiting this part of Washington. Another advantage to being a member of the Escapees RV Club. It’s a great RV Park and reasonable rates. It’s only 10 miles from the Harbor town of Port Townsend. In addition to its natural scenery at the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula, the city is also known for the many Victorian buildings remaining from its late 19th-century heyday, numerous annual cultural events, and as a maritime center for independent boatbuilders and related industries and crafts. Port Townsend is noted for a vast collection of Victorian homes and significant historical buildings. I really liked this area and the fresh shell fish was really great. We bought fresh Crab and Salmon Filets at Key City Fish Company .
The trip out to the Lighthouse and through the old military base is worthwhile. The original lighthouse was built at Point Wilson in 1879 and its light was visible for up to 13 miles. The current lighthouse was built in 1914, but the original lighthouse remained as the light keeper’s house. Over many decades they say that several lighthouse keeper’s wives and other people staying in the light keeper’s house have reported paranormal activities including sightings of shadowy figures, sounds like someone walking on the second floor and objects mysteriously being moved. Some people believe that the Point Wilson Lighthouse is haunted.
