We have made it to Henry’s Lake State Park. It’s beautiful here. The spaces are large and you have plenty of real estate around you. Beware of Idaho’s tax for Each vehicle (meaning your RV and your Tow). It’s $5.00 a day in addition to your camping fee of $29.00 + taxes. We bought the yearly pass and will save some $$ for all the days we will be camped in an Idaho State Park.
First day was out exploring some BLM camping areas. Some easy and free camping off Highway 20 south heading toward Macks Inn. Just 5 miles south of Macks Inn, look for Red Rock Road to the right, then take another immediate right through the gate onto Bootjack Road. Up to the left you can follow the un-maintained dirt road to several Boondocking spaces. I would recommend taking your tow up in this area to be sure your RV rig can handle the road conditions.

I was so surprised at how many people were in this area when we arrived. I guess it’s typical Yellowstone in the Summer! Wow. There were so many people on the boardwalks, in the village square and the visitor center it was nearly impossible to get a parking space. While stopping at the visitor center I couldn’t help but notice the lazy Elk laying around on the grass throughout the village.
We need to come back here in late Fall or Early Spring when the snow has just melted to enjoy this place. Beautiful but….TOO many People right now.
Leaving Henry’s Lake State Park for a County park North West of here tomorrow. We’ve decided to let the “super crowds” diminish a bit before going back into the park. The trip to Mammoth was like trying to go shopping on Black Friday.
