Henry’s Lake Idaho – Fromes Park

While we were enjoying our camp site at Henry’s Lake State Park, We took a drive around the lake.  We discovered a little County Park on the Northwest end of the lake.  So today we arrived here at Bill Frome’s Memorial Park. This is a quiet little park, a real gem not far from the craziness of West Yellowstone. A place we can relax and get acclimated to being on the road after such a long hiatus being parked and out of our RV home.

There are about 40 sites on gravel trimmed in grass. many of the sites have mature trees to separate the sites.  There are no hookups here at all. You must take out all your rubbish as there are no dumpsters available.

It appears there are no Checkin or Check out hours… only posted a 15 day stay limit, which I suspect could be extended easily.  The fee for this park is technically Free, but they have a Donation box to help maintain the park which goes to the County of Fremont.

This is a great spot to hang out and relax for awhile, reports of wildlife in the area and located on the bank of one of the finest trout fishing lakes in Idaho.. Henry’s Lake.

It’s 9 miles from Henry’s Lake State Park, so that actually computes to about 7 miles further to get to West Yellowstone . We actually are planning to spend some time on the lake here and possibly do some fishing. The Kayaks will hit the water tomorrow for sure.

Today we inflated the Kayaks and hit the lake… It was a beautiful blue sky and no wind day.  This lake is 4 miles long and 2 miles wide.  We are directly across from the State Park we were camped in a few days ago.  Elevation here is 6472 and we are two miles South of the Continental Divide.  We like it here!  Quiet, surrounded by mountains and Idaho’s majestic beauty.

We took a ride up to Earthquake Lake this afternoon.

The landslides caused by the quake carried 80 million tons (40 million cubic yards) of rock, mud and debris down into the valley and created hurricane force winds strong enough to toss cars. In Madison Canyon, the landslide swept away a family of seven, five of whom perished. Two more fatalities were also reported in nearby Cliff Lake to the south. In Rock Creek, tourists camping there were caught off guard by the quake and landslide, which swept them into the creek. The landslide caused a seiche which inundated trailers and tents, uprooted trees, and injured one additional person.

One report in the Visitor Center stated that a family who were regular visitors of Yellowstone observed Old Faithful Geyser continuously erupting in the hours just before this event.  Something they had never seen before.  There is so much information about this event I can only suggest you check here for further info.  Earthquake Lake.

Today it rained most of the day.. It stopped for about two hours, long enough to take a jeep road up to Red Rock Pass. I thought perhaps I would see some wildlife out and about in the cool temperatures.  I did see a few things but not the Moose or Bear I was hoping for.

The first thing that happened is my GPS started speaking SPANISH!   Just going along and all of a sudden it was no longer English. I don’t know at all what happened.

I could not figure out what happened or how to change it back.

Finally a check through the Jeep Manual and my little bit of Spanish language, I finally got it back to English.  Very Weird.  Must have been the high elevation or the Continental Divide!
