Fredericksburg, Texas

This is our third visit to Fredericksburg. It’s a busy small town with great restaurants featuring German cuisine. There are many art galleries and museums. One particularly interesting museum is the National Museum of the Pacific War. There is a huge indoor exhibit space and outside you will find an impressive display of Allied and Japanese aircraft, tanks, guns and other large artifacts.

The First Friday of the Month is ARTWALK FREDERICKSBURG. This is quite a social event in the quaint downtown area. Many galleries offer not only first class paintings and sculpture but also hor d’oeuvres and beverages. We enjoyed checking out all the galleries. There were lots of people enjoying the evening in downtown Fredericksburg.

Whether you are a fan of Country Western music or not you will enjoy a side trip to Luckenbach made popular by Willie, Waylon and the Boys.  They usually have someone playing guitar in the bar and there is a gift shop of course.  Get your picture taken in front of the old Post Office.  Check out the calendar of events here while you are in town as many great bands entertain in the large dance hall.

We stayed at the KOA RV park on Highway 290 just outside of town. It was OK, but we liked the Fredericksburg RV park on E. Highway Street better. Since my friend Phyllis was coming down from Marble Falls to have dinner with us, this park had small cabins you can rent so we stayed here. Phyllis and I were born on the same day, April 4th. It was close enough to our birthday’s that we had our celebration together.

The WiFi was very slow.  They do have a nice Dog park though.

In Need of a Hair Stylist while you are in Fredericksburg. Be sure to call BRANDY at Jay & Co. Hair Studio on N. Llano Street. I can highly recommend her, I’ve been there twice in the past 7 months.

The Wildseed Farm just east of town is spectacular in the Spring and Summer with their acres of  flowers, attracting many types of Butterflies.

Wander through the Texas Hill country and see beautiful rolling hills which in the spring are sporting the beautiful Texas Blue Bonnets.  There are many wineries to visit too.
