FALL IN NEVADA ~ 2018

We arrived in the Carson Valley at the end of September so we could have some time to visit with my dad Jack.  He has lived in this valley since the mid-1970’s.  We have lots of projects to take care of here as well as enjoy some time with him.

We are parked just over the mountain range from Lake Tahoe

Early in October, our RV friends Dona and Joe arrived for a visit on their way south from Oregon. We decided to take a day and circle around Lake Tahoe. A drive to South Lake Tahoe is just 30 minutes from where we are parked.  The North Shore of Lake Tahoe is where I once called home many years ago. It was fun to see all the familiar places I used to visit; not to mention the many places where I lived. From Squaw Valley to Rubicon, I believe I moved 6 times during the 4 years I lived on the North Shore and the 7th move was a big one, I found myself in Honolulu, Hawaii.

One of my favorite places in fall is around the Taylor Creek area.

Each year at the Minden Tahoe Airport there is a great air show called the Aviation Roundup.  The Blue Angels were on hand this year to give everyone an amazing show, but there were many other participants in this show that kept our eyes focused on the sky above.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who had a neck ache the next day!

The Red Bull team had their Helicopter flying Upside down. First time I have ever seen that.

There were jumpers with Flags and those with smoke trailing behind them

There were close encounters

The So Cal Commemorative Wing were on hand with their two amazing pilots putting on an Aerial dogfight in their Vintage Navy Planes.

..and of course the Blue Angels

These pilots in their 21 million Dollar F/A 18 Jets fly between 120 to 700 mph during their performances, but in regular flights, they can reach speeds of 1,400 mph, twice the speed of sound. I feel lucky to have gotten them all within my lens after many attempts. They are only 18 inches from each other during the Diamond 360 manuever.
This valley heard and felt the rumble for over an hour both Saturday and Sunday. Since the Tahoe Douglas Airport is one mile as the eagles fly from my dad’s house, he enjoyed the show from his back porch.

The iconic B-25

The Douglas A 26, the aircraft my Father flew during WWII in Italy, and back to the US after the war.
The weather in the Carson Valley this fall has been perfect. Kinda chilly at night but upper 70’s during the day.

We will be around this area for a couple more weeks then we will head to the California Central Coast.
