After leaving Tempe, AZ we stopped in Eloy for 2 nights to wait out some high winds and blowing dust on Interstate 10. Our next overnight was in Deming and finally arriving at Caballo Lake.
Caballo Lake, is located just south of the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.
We are camped at the Caballo Lake State Park and have a 180 degree view of the lake which is full to capacity.
New Mexico state parks are very nice and quite reasonable, averaging $14.00 per night; even less if you buy the pass. Its a nice birding area as well as the park just south of us.. Percha Dam State Park. The birds are plentiful.
Elephant Butte is about 22 miles north of here and it is a large lake… well at least when it is full. When we visited, it was very low. The camp sites are nice, especially the ones on the ridge the overlook the lake.
One common site traveling across New Mexico are the many trains. This one was traveling East out of Deming. I did a little artistic work on the photo.
Now we are heading for Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.
