Anahuac Wildlife Preserve

Posted by on March 23, 2013

While staying at the Elks Lodge in Beaumont , we drove about 44 miles to the Anahuac Wildlife Refuge on the gulf coast of  Texas. We toured the refuge and then continued on to the Bolivar Peninsula and High Island. This area was  hit extremely hard by Hurricane Ike in 2008. We drove several miles along the main road and for the most part all that is left are cement foundations where buildings once were.

If you are into Bird watching or Bird photography be sure to stop at the Boy Scout Woods Sanctuary, Mary Edna Crawford Bird Sanctuary, and the Eubank Bird Sanctuary.

Here are a few of my photos of this area. As you can see, some of this area has more to see than Birds !

Gator chargeing

Mark called this Gator with his wounded rabbit call. It soon got his attention and he leaped about 20 feet in the air across the little creek. I missed the photo of the year with him in mid air because I was stunned when he took off from the bank 🙂  He was a very big boy!
